Kazakhstan to unveil Central Asia's largest hyperscale data center

Kazakhstan will build the largest hyperscale data centre in Central Asia after GK Hyperscale Ltd of Singapore decided to invest in the country. A corresponding decree regarding the investment agreement was signed on Tuesday by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.

The agreement outlines 690 billion tenge for the construction and operation of two data centers that will be equipped with 200 megawatt IT capacity and located in Akmola and Karaganda regions. Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry is working to link the project to the country’s digital ecosystem and to enhance regulations promoting cloud technology and HPC.

The initiative plans to lure global technology firms, including computer giant Microsoft, Google and Amazon, into using vast amounts of data and merciless machines, to Kazakhstan. It is anticipated that the most up-to-date gigantic data hub will support high-paying occupations and assist in achieving technological independence.

Kazakhstan is expected to sharply increase the export of its IT services, expand the presence of local IT companies in global markets, as well as enhance the country’s role in global digital ecosystems. The construction of Central Asia’s largest hyperscale data center is set to strengthen the country’s role as the region’s digital hub with plans to launch in 2030.
