Cyber Security Tech 2021
The world entered a new era of cyberattacks in 2020. Although in last decades we have seen viruses, breaches, and other forms of attack, 2020 saw increased sophistication, a propensity to pay in ransomware cases, and a broad wrapping of geopolitical uncertainty and those conditions hackers have found favourable.
The severity of financial consequences has been increased significantly. Ransoms rocketed from thousands into the millions, including $10 million reportedly paid by Garmin, leaders in fitness tracking devices. Several ransom demands were far higher before being negotiated, according to few companies worldwide. A recent report by Hiscox shows insured cyber losses of $1.8 billion in 2019, up an eye-popping 50% year over year.
Following key measures organizations must consider for Cyber Security Technologies point of view in 2021:
Increased cyber-attacks in the year 2020 have made organisations rethink their security measures, especially in terms of enterprise data security (EDS). And hence deploying Security Automation Technologies is the answer for organisations looking to secure their critical data in 2021 & beyond. Security automation is machine-based execution of security actions with the power to programmatically detect, investigate, and remediate cyber threats without or very less human intervention. AI based software tool will identify incoming threats from both external and internal environment and alert the security administrators “SA” as per the priority and level of threat.
Organisations are expanding work-from-home and remote working solutions for their employees; hence the number of vulnerable endpoints increases. In such a condition, centralised security systems may not be effective because of the disrupted landscape. Endpoint security will become a necessity to manage multiple open points and help regulate data traffic through data loss prevention “DLP” technologies and monitor the incoming/outgoing connection of sensitive/confidential and mission-critical data.
“In 2021, more than 45% of organisations in India and globally, will continue to invest in cybersecurity technologies and privacy solutions to coxswain from the rising cyber-threats/ attacks in the era of remote working or WFH.”
Infusing more investment in cybersecurity technologies and privacy solutions:
2021 would be the priority year for CIOs, CISOs and DPOs in all type of organizations to invest heavily to safeguard their Information Technology architecture against any kind of cyber threat or malware attack. In 2021, more than 45% of organisations in India and globally, will continue to invest in cybersecurity technologies and privacy solutions to coxswain from the rising cyber-threats/attacks in the era of remote working or WFH.
The pandemic has forced organisations to rethink their Information Security budgets. Organizations will be keener to invest in specific solutions cyber security technology solutions i.e. endpoints protection (both end users and servers) against malwares, DLP, Threat detection and prevention and hence monitoring tools rather just investing in the entire suite/product.
As per Gartner Cyber Security Trends 2021, following are the possible areas where organizations need to focus and Cyber Security Technology deployment will follow accordingly.
1. Rise of automotive hacking
2. Integrating AI with cyber security
3. Mobile is the new target as everything is mobile based now days
4. Cloud is also potentially vulnerable if effective measure not taking care 5. Data breaches will be prime target
6. IoT with 5G network – The New Era of Technology and Risks
7. Automation and Integration
8. Targeted Ransomware will continue
9. State-Sponsored Cyber warfare
10. Insider Threats
